Rell Cruelty Tank Guide - The Strongest Front Line in ARAM Mayhem
Rell is one of the strongest front-liners in ARAM Mayhem. This guide covers the Cruelty + Tank Engine core augment combo, item builds, and gameplay tips for a tanky yet high-damage experience.
Rell's Front-Line Dominance
In ARAM Mayhem,
Rell is a front-line hero that strikes fear into the enemy backline. Despite being a tank, she can deal the highest damage and absorb the most punishment on the team, consistently ranking top 3 among front-liners in ARAM Mayhem win rates. If you've been frustrated with the "battery pack" role of front-liners in past ARAM games, the current version of
Rell is absolutely worth trying.
Core Augment Synergy
Rell's core augment combo revolves around crowd control + burst. If you can grab Tank Engine early, it's basically a perfect start — tank champions can easily roll this augment at Gold rarity.
Cruelty (Prismatic) is the soul of this build. Its effect: when you immobilize or root a champion, it summons a comet that deals magic damage to nearby enemies.
Rell has three CC abilities, and each one triggers Cruelty's comet. More importantly, her ultimate can pull multiple enemies together, causing Cruelty's comet to hit everyone, dealing devastating AOE damage.
Tank Engine (Gold) stacks maximum health through kill participation, making
Rell increasingly tankier in the mid-to-late game. Paired with Unending Despair, it becomes easier to survive long enough to earn assists and stack Tank Engine.
If you're lucky enough to also grab Courage of the Colossus (Prismatic), that's even better. This augment has no cooldown — every time you CC an enemy, you gain a massive shield. Combined with
Rell's three CC abilities and her built-in shield-breaking mechanic, she hard-counters enemy shield-reliant champions and shield augments in the current shield-heavy ARAM meta.
Win Rate: 53.8%
Core Item Build
For items, Heartsteel is the go-to core item for tanks. Combined with Tank Engine, you can continuously stack health and easily break the 10,000 HP mark in the late game.
Unending Despair is the second core item, providing dual resistances and healing that greatly boosts teamfight sustain. More importantly, it helps you survive longer in fights, making it easier to earn assists and stack Tank Engine.
Gameplay Tips
Rell's core play is the R-Flash engage: when enemies group up, use R-Flash to pull multiple enemies together. Combined with Cruelty's comet AOE, you can unleash explosive damage in an instant. In practice, pulling three enemies with a single R-Flash deals massive damage.
Additionally,
Rell's built-in shield-breaking mechanic is especially valuable in the current patch. Shield augments are extremely common in ARAM Mayhem, and
Rell can effectively counter enemies that rely on shields and shield-type augment effects.
In lane, start by poking with abilities, then save Q to lock down key targets. Cruelty paired with CC is extremely effective, especially on a champion like Rell who has three crowd-control abilities.
Summary
The current version of ARAM Mayhem is hands down the most fun it's ever been for tanks. Front-liners are no longer just "battery packs" — soaking damage with zero presence. Today's
Rell can both absorb damage and dish out impressive numbers, truly achieving the tanky yet deadly front-line fantasy.
If you've ever felt that playing front-line means your teammates hide behind you while you suffer through a miserable tanking experience, get blamed, and can't carry — then the current patch's front-line meta is absolutely worth trying out.
